Legacy Mendenhall Colorado Chief
Chief is the only known 100% Colorado bull available for AI that is registered with ADCA, PDCA, and Legacy. The Colorado herd was a Legacy herd that was line bred since the mid 1960s. The herd is out of Original Population Dexter Cattle imported prior to the availability of AI. It was one of the historic herds that maintained a closed herd. The herd mostly originated from Peerless Herd genetics. The Colorado genetics are close since the herd was line bred for so many generations. When using these genetics on other populations of Dexters you do get "hybrid" vigor. We are excited to have these genetics available to our breeding program as they are really valuable in countering any inbreeding depression created within other Legacy lines. We feel it's always important to mention Judy and Legacy's effort to save the Colorado genetics when the herd owners became elderly. A lot of work went into making these genetics available to the dexter community in the US.
